Fleet Wash Chemicals Explained

The most commonly used fleet wash chemicals include:

  • Sodium Hydroxide
  • Hydrochloric Acid
  • Nitric Acid
  • 2-butoxyethanol

Sodium Hydroxide

Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) is composed of white crystals that take in water from the air and has no scent. It is also classified as an inorganic compound.

Inorganic compounds are substances made up of two or more elements that combine in near absolute proportions. These compounds more often than not lack carbon, resulting in their makeup being less versatile.

Sodium Hydroxide can be applied to plenty of materials can do the following:

  • Dissolve Grease
  • Dissolve Fats

Hydrochloric Acid

Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) is an inorganic compound that has no color and possesses a powerful makeup. It is often combined with other acids which in turn, weakens its strength.

It can be used for the following:

  • Removal of Rust Stains
  • Removal of Cement Stains
  • Removal of Concrete Stains
  • Removal of Fly Ash

Nitric Acid

Nitric Acid (HNO3) is an inorganic compound that despite possessing no color emits red or yellow fumes. The compound also has an acrid odor, which is very harsh to the human senses.

It is, similar to hydrochloric acid, in its ability to remove stains caused by rust.

2-butoxyethanol

2-butoxyethanol (BuOC2H4OH) is colorless and contains a sweet odor similar to ether. Unlike the chemicals explained before it, 2-butoxyethanol is an organic compound.

Organic compounds, in contrast to their inorganic counterparts, always contain carbon. This implementation of carbon allows for these compounds to combine with plenty of other elements.

2-butoxyethanol can do the following:

  • Dissolve Grease
  • Dissolve Dirt
  • Remove Oils
