What is Fleet Washing?

Fleet washing is the general term used to describe the cleaning and removal of debris from vehicles used for business or industrial purposes, such as semi-trucks and delivery trucks. Since these are larger vehicles that have spent a prolonged amount of time on the road, they accumulate significantly more debris, which requires aggressive removal with special methods.

Just as there are various methods incorporated into fleet washing, there are also various chemicals required for different methods. One of the most common methods utilized in fleet washing is pressure washing with an industrial-grade cleaning solution.

What is Pressure Washing?

Pressure washing incorporates a highly pressurized water stream to remove dirt and avoid having to physically scrub off debris. It is an efficient method that is usually used when cleaning the outside of the vehicle, including the undercarriage. There are various chemicals utilized in pressure washing, such as:

  • Sodium hydroxide — ideal for dissolving grease
  • Oxalic acid — ideal for rust and grime removal
  • Citric acid — ideal for stain removal
  • Sodium hypochlorite — stain removal and disinfectant

Are There Other Methods for Fleet Washing?

Fleet washing involves more than just cleaning the outside of the vehicle, since certain parts of a vehicle may require resurfacing. An Aluminum brightener is an example of a resurfacing product used to remove the top layer of aluminum that reacts with oxygen, dulling the shininess of the surface.

Though there are various chemicals required for various purposes in fleet washing, there are products that are versatile and can be used for multiple purposes and on different materials of a vehicle.

One example of such a product is Touchless Truck & Trailer, which is a system of two products used for truck washing and truck degreasing. The product has many benefits, such as:

  • Can be used for cleaning trucks, trailers, tractors, mobile homes, and RVs
  • Eliminates oil and grease
  • Can be used on painted surfaces and polished aluminum
  • Industrial strength
  • Nonflammable
