Interested in Learning About Soft Wash Chemicals?

There are three different types of chemicals that are often employed during the soft washing process. Keep reading to learn about these soft wash chemicals!

Definition of Soft Washing

Softwashing is simply the process of cleaning surfaces with low-pressure water. This distinguishes it from pressure washing, also called power washing, which utilizes high-pressure water. (Additionally, power washing typically uses hotter water than pressure washing). For surfaces such as roofs, siding, and fences that may be damaged by pressure washing, soft washing is a fantastic option.

3 Types of Soft Wash Chemicals

There are three chemicals that are commonly used during soft washing operations. These include:

  • Water

While many people would not classify water as a chemical, it is! The water used in soft washing is sprayed onto surfaces at low pressure. This ensures that the surfaces will not be chipped, dented, or otherwise damaged by high water pressure.

  • Sodium Hypochlorite

Sodium hypochlorite, also known as bleach, is another important soft wash chemical. Soft washing involves low-pressure water, and a strong cleaning agent, such as sodium hypochlorite. Its disinfecting properties allow it to eliminate mold, mildew, algae, and other types of debris that accumulate on outdoor surfaces.

  • Surfactants

Last up on our list of soft wash chemicals is surfactants. Unlike the previous two soft wash chemicals, surfactants are not one single substance, but rather, may consist of numerous chemicals. However, all surfactants ultimately serve the same purpose: decreasing the surface tension of liquids. This increases the “staying power” of water and sodium hypochlorite, allowing them to provide a more effective clean.
